Guided tour of the historic centre of Figueres
Figueres is a very charming city: its squares, the Rambla, its markets, its shops and its bars will delight you.
We will take a short tour of the spaces linked to the genius Salvador Dalí in Figueres, his hometown.
We will start the route at the Plaza de la Palmera, from where you will visualise the residence which the Dalí family moved to when the painter was 8 years old.
Following Calle Monturiol we will contemplate the artist’s birthplace, where Dalí and his sister were born and lived with his family between 1900 and 1912.
After that, we will take a stroll through the Rambla, the central and commercial axis of the city, where the past and the present meet. Dalí spent a large part of his life there. We can also find the Empordà Museum, which we will also see and still preserves some of his works.
Before reaching the Dalí Theatre-Museum we will enter the oldest part of Figueres, passing by the Toy Museum until we reach the church of Sant Pere, the place where he was baptised, and which is located right next to the Dalí Museum.
Guided tour of the Dalí Museum in Figueres
The Dalí Theatre-Museum is one of the most visited places in all of Catalonia. And it is not surprising, since it was designed by Dalí himself so that the visitors felt that they were travelling for a day to the world of surrealism.
Once inside the Museum, we will access the courtyard, in the centre, where one of Dalí’s most important works is exhibited: The Rainy Taxi. Our guide will explain all the details about this work and the objects and sculptures that surround it.
The visit will proceed by entering the stage, crowned by the famous dome and with several elements to highlight: the enormous curtain of The Labyrinth, The Hallucinogenic Toreador, Gala Nude Looking at the Sea Which at 18 Metres Appears the President Lincoln, and, finally, the tarp that hides Dalí’s tomb right in the middle of the room.
You will be able to experience and enjoy the rest of the rooms at your own pace.
