Itinerary of the Girona Monumental Tour
Are you entering the most monumental and historical Girona with us?
In this 3-hour tour, our guide will show you the most representative and emblematic monuments of Girona. You will discover the history behind each one of them and you will know the most interesting facts.
We started.
1. First stop: visit to the Cathedral of Girona
To start the tour, we will meet at Plaça de Catalunya and from there we will go to our first stop.
Located in the upper part of the city, the Cathedral of Santa María de Girona is one of the most important buildings in the city.
This cathedral was built following the dictates of the Romanesque style during the 9th century. In addition, it stands out for having the widest Gothic nave in the world (with a total of 22.89 meters). To appreciate all this, we will go inside and carry out a guided tour inside the Girona Cathedral.
We will take advantage of the access to the interior of the seo to tell you stories, legends, and the relationship between the cathedral and the emperor Charlemagne, whose figure is part of some elements of the cathedral.
Are you curious to get to know her better? Here you can find more information about the Girona Cathedral.
2. Second stop: the Arab baths of Girona
The first mention of these baths dates from the 12th century. And it is one of the best preserved Romanesque style public baths that exist.
Its construction was carried out imitating the Muslim baths. Unfortunately, during a siege the building suffered extensive damage and had to be restored later.
However, until its closure in the 15th century they have continued to function as baths.
Here we give you more information about the Arab baths of Girona.
3. Third stop: the monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants
This Benedictine monastery is the jewel of the Romanesque of the city.
At present, it is used as the headquarters of the Archaeological Museum of Catalonia and has the category of Asset of Cultural Interest.
It is thought that the monastery was built in the 10th century and that its morphology changed in various reforms carried out over time thanks to numerous donations.
This building has also suffered the ravages of the passage of time: the monastery has lived through times of decadence and abandonment when it passed into the hands of different institutions. A Civil Guard barracks were even installed inside it, until it finally became an archaeological museum.

Note: the price of the Girona Monumental tour includes tickets to the Cathedral, the Sant Pere de Galligants monastery and the Arab Baths.
