Empúries Ruins
About this tour
Shared by both Greeks and Romans, this ancient treasure is located in the bay of Roses, in the town of l'Escala. It is the oldest and most important Greco-Roman archaeological site in the Alt Empordà region. In fact, it contains the most significant Greek remains on the Iberian Peninsula. Excavations are ongoing, with approximately 75% of the site still underground.
Interest points
Archaeological Museum
It has one of the most complete collections of Hellenic and Roman remains on the peninsula, including a life-size statue of Asclepius.
Greek and Roman Site
The Greek and Roman parts are side by side. The Greek section is closer to the sea, while the Roman part is higher up on the hill. You can still see the street layout, houses, and mosaics over two thousand years old.
Roman Amphitheater
Here both beasts and gladiators spilled their blood.
