History and the background of the Dalí Museum
Before describing what the tour consists of, it is necessary to know a little about the history and the background of the Dalí Museum.
The main uniqueness of this museum is that it was designed by Dalí himself, so anyone who visits it can perceive the essence of the genius in all the spaces of the Museum.
Therefore, visiting this museum means enjoying the artist’s world, ideas and life for a day.
Another peculiarity is that it is found in the old Municipal Theatre of Figueres.
But what was the reason for Dalí to choose this place? There were three:
- In the lobby of the theatre he exhibited his first painting.
- It is in front of the church in which he was baptised.
- Dalí always stated that he considered himself a theatrical painter.
Currently, a large part of Dalí’s creations are in this museum, specifically approximately 1500 pieces, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, etc.
It is divided into three rooms:
- The Theatre-Museum itself, composed of the old theatre.
- The extension rooms of the Theatre-Museum, where Dalí barely intervened, but where numerous works by the artist are found.
- The Dalí-Jewels exhibition rooms, where the collection of jewels designed by the genius are located.
