Monumental Girona Tour itinerary
Will you join us as we delve into the most monumental and historic Girona?
During this 3-hour tour, our guide will show you the most representative and emblematic monuments of Girona. You’ll discover the history behind each one and learn the most interesting facts.
Let’s start.
1. First stop: visit to Girona Cathedral
To begin the tour, we’ll meet at Plaça de Catalunya and from there head to our first stop.
Located in the upper part of the city, the Cathedral of Saint Mary of Girona is one of the city’s most important buildings.
This cathedral was built following the Romanesque style during the 9th century. It also stands out for having the widest Gothic nave in the world (measuring 22.89 meters). To fully appreciate this, we’ll enter the cathedral’s interior and take a guided tour inside Girona Cathedral.
We’ll make the most of our access inside to share stories, legends, and the connection between the cathedral and Emperor Charlemagne, whose figure is part of some of the cathedral’s elements.

2. Second stop: the Arab baths of Girona
The first mention of these baths dates back to the 12th century. They are among the best-preserved Romanesque-style public baths that still exist.
Their construction was inspired by Muslim baths. Unfortunately, during a siege the building suffered extensive damage and was later restored.
Nevertheless, they continued to operate as baths until their closure in the 15th century.
Here’s more information about the Arab baths of Girona.
3. Third stop: the monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants
This Benedictine monastery is the city’s jewel of Romanesque art.
Today, it serves as the headquarters of the Archaeological Museum of Catalonia and holds the designation of Asset of Cultural Interest.
The monastery is believed to have been built in the 10th century and has undergone various renovations over time thanks to numerous donations.
This building has also endured the ravages of time: it has experienced periods of decay and abandonment, passing through the hands of different institutions. At one point, it even housed a Civil Guard barracks until it was finally converted into an archaeological museum.
