Guided tour of Dalí’s House in Portlligat
Do you know what town was considered “the most beautiful town in the world” according to Dalí?
That’s right, it was the town of Portlligat, located in the municipality of Cadaqués. And it comes as no surprise since the contrast between the blue sea and the trademark white houses can charm anyone.
Perhaps for this reason, or maybe because of the connection between this town and his beloved Gala, he decided to settle down and make it his regular residence.
In any case, if you are visiting this area, you cannot miss Dalí’s house in Portlligat, where you will be able to discover much more about the life and work of the genius.

The background of Dalí’s house in Portlligat
Dalí’s current labyrinthine house in Portlligat was, originally, a fisherman’s shack, which the artist purchased, drawn to the landscape and the isolation of the place.
Over time, he bought more barracks, which together make up the current structure.
Its peculiarity lies in the fact that it was Dalí’s only stable residence, since he lived and worked there until he moved to Púbol Castle in 1982, after Gala’s death.
In 1989 the painter died and it was in 1994 that it became a museum, by the architects’ Oriol Clos i Costa and José Ramos Illán.
What will you find in Dalí’s house in Portlligat?
Not only will you be able to admire the works of some of the artist’s paintings, but also surprising pieces such as the figure of a large polar bear or the couple’s room (of Gala and Dalí), characterised by an Arab style and a quite sensible one considering its Dalí.
In addition, you can visit the garden full of olive trees and with views of Cap de Creus. And if you are very enthusiastic about Dalí, there is a small projection room with documentaries about the genius.
